Thanks to good folks at LocalColor, I had the opportunity to create the designs for the 2023 Los Tiburones night, hosted by the San Jose Sharks in celebration of latin heritage month. I created a luchador hockey mask, crest and accompanying badge designs that would be added onto custom jerseys worn by players during their warmups and later put up for auction . Exclusive Los Tiburones merchandise is also sold on the team merch store and at the home game.
Jersey Crest Design
For the main design, I chose to represent my Mexican roots by reimagining the depiction of an eagle eating a snake that’s on the Mexican flag, but juxtaposing a shark with the eagle to represent my San Jose roots. I made sure to keep the nopales(cactus) in the back of the design, as these are big part of Mexican culture, and also remind me of my grandmas garden.
Shoulder Badge Designs
Accompanying the crest design, are two badges on each shoulder of the Jersey. I chose to represent the lowrider culture in San Jose by illustrating a 64' Impala and turning it into a custom "Shark Mobile" on one side. The other side features a shark fin with a custom San Jose typeface tagged over the front of it.
Luchador Hockey Mask
Design is an ode to classic luchador masks, and incorporates floral elements to symbolize growth and resilience.
